MACON – Two senior graphic design majors in Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences have been named among Graphic Design USA’s (GDUSA) 2022 Students to Watch.
Savannah Duringer is a graphic designer and illustrator, with an emphasis in digital media. She is set to receive her bachelor’s degree in May with a major in graphic design and minors in marketing communications and fine arts.
Duringer was a recipient of the Gilman Scholarship, which she used to participate in an internship with Andina, a high-end jewelry company based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last summer. She also worked at Fiserv as a global brand and communications creative services intern.
She serves as layout design editor for The Cluster student newspaper and is a designer for Mercer’s McEachern Art Center and for freelance clients in the areas of website design, branding and custom illustrations. She also creates commissioned fine arts in both acrylics and mixed media. Additionally, Duringer volunteers to create digital and print materials for a nonprofit organization that serves the elderly disabled population.
Landon Miller is a digital artist set to receive his bachelor’s degree in May with a major in graphic design and a minor in business administration.
This past fall, he concluded his four-year collegiate football career during which he served as a receiver and punt returner for the Bears.
Miller grew up collecting sneakers, inspired by the photo composites that major shoe brands would use to advertise new shoe releases. Combining his love of athletics and design, he recently completed an internship for Mercer’s Athletics Department, where he was able to further explore his passion for photo compositing.
With the help of several of America’s leading art and design schools, GDUSA annually identifies top undergraduate, graduate and continuing education students ready to burst on the design scene. Profiles of this year’s Students to Watch are available online and will be featured in an upcoming edition of GDUSA magazine.
“As dedicated students in Mercer’s graphic design program, Savannah and Landon are deserving of this honor,” said Tennille Shuster, associate professor of graphic design. “Not only are they both incredibly talented, but their strong work ethic combined with their confidence and creative conviction will provide a smooth transition to the ‘real world,’ as their current creative output is already commensurate with professional-level design work.”
