From the September 2022 issue of E&T: glasses-free 3D, invisible smart home tech, a unique new type of shower and more.
Acer ConceptD 7 SpatialLabs Edition
Pricey, but this is no ordinary laptop. It features Acer’s new glasses-free 3D screen technology. This combines lenticular lenses (like a funny birthday card with a chihuahua on) with a pair of cameras that track your eyes, to deliver them the perfect 3D image. It’s powerful enough to render 3D in real time too, unlocking a new experience for designers.

Kelda BubbleSpa
This unique shower tech has to be seen, hence the video. 16 microprocessor-controlled nozzles create 20mm air-filled water droplets that fall softly on the body. Kelda calls this BubbleTapping shower therapy. Magical and the rhythmic tapping feels a lot like a traditional Swedish massage technique, known to improve blood circulation and muscle relaxation.

Nothing Phone (1)
Less a revolution in smartphones and more a mid-priced Android phone with a transparent back and some cool LEDs. But it has all mod cons including a crisp OLED display and wireless charging. And we like that it’s made with 100 per cent recycled aluminium and industry-leading use of over 50 per cent bio-plastic and recycled sources for the plastic components.

Zhiyun Five Ray
Brighten your photos and videos anywhere. Zhiyun is best known for its gimbals but this is its first ever light stick. It’s powerful and portable, weighing just 920g. The bright LED colour temperature is adjustable (2700K to 6200K) and you can charge it via USB or buy a separate charger that’s even faster. A threaded mount means you can use the wireless light with a tripod or simply hand-hold it. It’s basically a lightsaber for photographers and filmmakers.

Zuma Lumisonic
This British start-up is creating invisible, high-end smart home tech. By which we mean than it’s embedded in light fittings but with sound that rivals the big names in multiroom music and home cinema. App control also gives you 1,000 shades of white light to choose from. For example, a favourite wakeful white to work to by day and a different tone for a cosy evening. You can even select Circadian Rhythm to match natural light through the day.

Samsung Freestyle
This premium portable HD projector can be voice-controlled and sets itself up. Point it at any wall or ceiling and it automatically straightens the picture. A good speaker and Smart TV apps are built in. It’s not rechargeable but you can run it from a USB portable battery pack. Teamed with a smartphone’s mobile data, you really could watch Netflix on a 100-inch screen while camping.
