Weld County Government has announced some new changes that are going to be implemented to its website, making the site more user-friendly.
The county asked for feedback from the community as to what parts of the old site they used and what they would like to see in a new site. The recommendations were then incorporated into the new design.
“We try to update the design of our website every five years, and we’re excited to unveil this new site,” Commission Chairman Steve Moreno said in a news release from the county. “As our website has served almost 2.5 million users over the past five years, quick usability is key. We hope our residents find the new site beneficial and user-friendly.”
For the past six months, the county’s Information Technology Department, along with staff from a variety of county departments, have been working with the vendor OpenCities to design a new website and move content from the old site over to the new one.
Some of the new features that will displayed on the site include:
- A “Top Services” tab that will replace the former “Quick Links” tab in a more prominent position on the site, making it easier for people to find what they are looking for.
- The site navigation will change from the left side bar navigation to tiles users click on for more information about a specific county department, program or service.
- The website will be more mobile-friendly and sized to fit the dimensions of mobile devices.
- The addition of OpenForms, an integrated forms platform, that will house registration and service forms directly on webpages rather than in external PDF documents. OpenForms will allow users to fill out the form and submit it with just a few simple steps.
- The county expects the new website to launch on Friday.
The implementation and training services, including moving the old data to the new site, cost $37,500, and the annual maintenance and hosting services are costing the county $61,150, according to Weld County Public Information Officer Jennifer Finch. The total cost for the project is $98,650.
